Thermal Imaging

GPD Electrical and Communication now provides thermography to its range of services. Thermal scans are a great means of preventative maintenance and can identify faults, avoiding breakdowns and potential electrical switchboard fires. Thermal scans can identify problems that are not obvious to the naked eye.

Regular inspections of your switchboards and electrical assets will identify electrical faults before they become a major concern and a costly fix. It has also become common for insurance companies to require a thermographic scan of your switchboards upon renewal of your insurance policy, which may also reduce your premium.

All our thermal image specialists are Electricians with a minimum Level 1 Thermography Certification and we service the Gippsland Region.

Here is a photo of an overloaded CBUS dimming relay. The first picture shows the relay without any load. As you can see once the relay channels are turned on, the temperature rises quite significantly. The relay may run for a while like this but will no doubt fail in time due to the high operating temperature.

This can be a simple fix by just reducing the load, or installing a new circuit, halving the load that is on that channel. If left like this a replacement dimming relay may be required or worse, creating an electrical fire, either way it may be a costly fix. Not to mention leaving your customers in the dark. Specialty components like dimming relays may not be shelf items and you could be in the dark for an extended period until the replacement part arrives.
